TOBY IMADA pulls off Submission of the Year!!!
Toby Imada pulls off submission of the year and moves to final round of Bellator Tournament! Like a wise man once said, “Never under estimate the other guy”. It’s easy to play couch warrior and arm chair quarterback, but try stepping into the cage as an underdog? Think what it must be like to step into the cage knowing everyone around, but your corner, thinks you’re about to get smashed!! Well, Toby Imada doesn’t think like that and he showed the MMA world why so last weekend during his fight against Jorge Masvidal for Bellator 5. Coming into the fight, Toby Imada knew he had a tough opponent with quick hands. Toby had heard he was not expected to win any of his fights in Bellator. He even said in an interview that he expected to take damage in his next fight against Masvidal. That is all a typical background for a MMA fight, but here are some not so typical things: Toby said in an interview 2 weeks before his match that he wanted the crowd to remember his fights and wanted his chance to make an impact on people. He also said in the interview that his choice submission was his reverse triangle. Well, 2 things happened concerning this fight. Toby had everyone talk about his fight saying it was fight of the night, and he submitted the tough opponent with a reverse triangle no one knew was coming….. no one but Toby that is. This wasn’t an easy fight by any stretch for Toby. He received 4 stitches, and some really nice raccoon eyes for his efforts in the ring. He was hit with knees, hooks, and a barn full of jabs that were as quick as they were stiff. Toby was hit but he wasn’t stopped, and he continued to attack his opponent winning the respect of Masvidal and the crowd. In the 3rd round Toby had one chance at winning the fight and that was by finishing Masvidal. Toby had been successful on the feet that night, but was behind on the cards. Toby has said before that he likes to always fight in transition with feet to ground to feet and over again, and this was his key for success against Masvidal. Toby Imada moves on to face an even tougher opponent in Eddie Alvarez for the light weight finals of the 1st Bellator MMA tournament.
