Anderson “ The Spider “ Silva impressed crowds across the country Saturday night with another peak performance with his quick win over Nate “ The Great “.  Some people in the community said this would be his toughest match.  If you recall the last time people said this would be his toughest match was against Rich “Ace “Franklin.  Anderson’s fight against Rich went pretty much the same way as it did against Nate in terms of length and outcome.  This time in the fight Anderson didn’t utilize the clinch, and he didn’t finish with his knees.  Anderson showed great diversity against Nate with Kicks, punches, Jiu Jitsu base, wrestling reversals, and of course some acrobatic jump kicks.  Personally I love watching Anderson and because he is such a cool guy in person it is even easier to be stoked on his success.  Having said that I hope the UFC continues to throw hard fights at him, because he is obviously a fighter that rises to the occasion.

Anderson Silva comes from Brazil by way of a city call Curitiba.  He has trained in traditional martial arts, and this gives him a nice back ground in kata’s , standing elbows, and is a great foundation for his kicks and their accuracy.  Silva is also a Thai kick boxer, and this can be seen in his Franklin fight by the way he utilized his clinch game.  The Thai people and fighters use their knees and elbows with great success, and you can see Anderson uses this well.  Against Travis Lutter he showed the knees with a flying knee that almost put Travis down, and front the bottom positions he held Travis in his guard ass he pounded away with elbows that stopped the fight.  Against “ACE” Silva again Anderson showed Knees with a tight clinch and huge power.  The same theme of intelligent striking was shown against Nate by Anderson when he chose every elbow carefully from the bottom, and from the top he ignored the hammer fists and with a few pin point punches ended the fight.  There is a reason why he can out strike the best strikers and avoid take downs and submissions.

A black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the famous Nogueira brothers Anderson has a complete game.  I have seen him train and everything they work on flows with great consistency.  As this MMA game continues to grow and the athlete’s get better the name of the game is COMPLETE.  People like Anderson, St Pierre, BJ Penn, and Minotauro are setting the bar high.  You can’t just be a one sided fighter because your game gets stuffed and you have nothing to fall back on.  People criticized Anderson for his performance against Travis, and they said his take down defense was weak.  Few people know that Anderson had undergone Knee surgery months before the fight, and this was also a reason Anderson was so upset at Travis for not making weight.  Anderson went to the ground when he tried the flying Knee and got ankle picked by Travis as well, so really he didn’t show weak take down defense at all.

All in all Anderson is a great fighter, and as a middle weight he will be very hard to stop.  Sinister Brand looks forward to continuing to support one of our favorite fighters as a person and as a fighter.  With many of our guys moving up in the ranks and continuing to impress this looks like it’s going to be a great year for Sinister and company!
