Andres Galvao wins his MMA Debut.
A good morning and congratulations goes out to newest Sinister Brand athlete Andre Galvao. For the BJJ fans, and those close to the sport of grappling know Andre for his huge wins as a black belt, and his 7 time Mundial champion (World) title?s. Now it is time once again to find out how a traditional Jiu Jitsu practitioner can transition into the MMA game.
As can be the case Andre found himself introduced into the world of pro mma competition with a punch to the face. The strike left Andre dazed but didn?t have enough damage to end the fight or his desire for a win. Andre was able to push through the attack and came out a better man. In the 2nd Andre was able to put together a clean ground game and eventually secured the arm bar and a win for his pro debut.
Along with Andre fan favorite?s Morango , Joe Duarte, and the crew went to show their support.
Here is a little Q & A we had with Andre at our ware house before the fight.
Q & A with Andre Galvao
Q: Andre when you got started with Jiu Jitsu did you have MMA in mind or was it just something that happened?
A: Originally I was ok with just focusing in Jiu Jitsu but after my great success and with the support of my team I am venturing into the MMA game.
Q: Are you excited about starting your MMA career, are you nervous about people having high expectations about your fight?
A: I am very happy and excited to take this fight. I don?t feel nervous because I feel like a white belt starting all over again. I know with hard work I went from being a white belt t a black belt so I feel I can do the same with MMA if I work hard.
Q: Other then MMA or Jiu Jitsu who are some athletes you admire?
A: I like Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson; I like Tyson because he is so aggressive.
Q: what are some of your favorite movies?
A: I like action movies like Terminator and deadly weapon?.
Q: If you could pick one woman for most beautiful who would it be?
A: (Laughing) my wife of course!!!
Q: Who is the strongest person in your mind or who do you look up to?
A: that?s easy its Jesus Christ. I am going to have my name be ? THE PROFET? because I really love Christ and I really love god, so I feel that is a good choice.
Q: How doest it make you feel having a brand named Sinister as your sponsor?
A: it?s ok because I am connecting with the people, and not a name on a shirt. It really wouldn?t matter so much about the name but I like the name Sinister any way.
Q: What would you say to some kids new to Jiu Jitsu about training and being succeful?
A: Train hard all the time and after a while your body gets used to the pain and you become stronger then ever. So stay with it and have faith in yourself.
